Type 08
Sensemaker
You see how it all connects.
The Sensemaker pattern
Sensemakers notice relationships between details that initially look separate. A repeated pattern, a missing piece of context, or a connection across subjects can reveal the larger shape of a situation.
You help people move from a collection of facts to a coherent picture. Once the pieces belong to the same story, the next decision often becomes easier to explain.
Strengths in practice
Connecting the pieces
You can hold details from different sources long enough to see where they reinforce, contradict, or explain one another.
Restoring context
You remember the surrounding conditions that keep a single fact from being interpreted too narrowly.
Explaining the larger pattern
You can help others understand why separate events belong together and what that pattern may mean for the decision in front of them.
What can get in the way
A complete picture may not arrive on schedule. Waiting for every connection can delay a decision that only needs enough context, not all possible context.
What feels like an obvious pattern to you may be difficult for others to follow. Show the few links that matter instead of presenting the whole mental map at once.
Working well together
Give a Sensemaker access to relevant context and ask them to identify the pattern that affects the current choice. A bounded question helps keep the analysis usable.
If you are a Sensemaker, lead with the conclusion, then show the strongest connections behind it. People can ask for the rest of the map if they need it.
Questions worth asking
- Which connection changes how we understand this situation?
- How much context does this decision need?
- Can I explain the pattern in three clear steps?
